Event Title: Retro Party

At MG Language School, we believe events are powerful tools for creating meaningful learning experiences, fostering inclusivity, and strengthening our community bonds. On June 11th, 2024, we proudly hosted Retro Party, an outdoor theatrical performance celebrating music, culture, and the joy of learning.

Engaging Students in Memorable Learning

The performance opened with a special act by our Pre-Junior students, who introduced all the decades covered in the event. Their lively presentation set the stage for the evening, capturing the audience’s attention and providing an engaging overview of the journey through time.

Approximately 190 students from A Junior, B Junior, A Class, B Class, and a few from C Class participated, showcasing our commitment to inclusivity and engagement. Every student had the opportunity to speak and perform in English, enhancing their confidence and showcasing their language skills.

Students were divided into six groups, each presenting a specific decade through music and cultural features:

•    Group 1 (Pre-Junior): Introduced and connected all decades at the beginning of the performance.
  • Group 2 (1960s-70s): Classic hits like I Feel Good and One Way or Another.
  • Group 3 (1980s): Iconic anthems such as It’s the Final Countdown and We Will Rock You.
  • Group 4 (1990s): Favorites like Let’s Get Loud and Everybody.
  • Group 5 (2000s): Eurovision hits including Satellite and My Number One.
  • Group 6 (Our Saturday Musical Class): A dedicated 30-minute performance of Grease, the culmination of a year’s effort, added a theatrical highlight to the event.

Creating a Bonding Environment

The event preparations fostered a deep sense of community. Rehearsals during lessons, combined with a final practice at the theatre, ensured students felt confident and prepared. Teachers and students bonded through this shared journey, highlighting our school’s collaborative spirit.

Our Musical Class embodies inclusivity, welcoming all students regardless of English proficiency or performance experience. It embodies our philosophy that everyone deserves the chance to shine.  This ethos made the students’ performance even more heartfelt and meaningful.

 

A Celebration of Community

The event welcomed over 600 attendees, including parents, family members, and friends. Upon arrival, guests were given a thoughtfully designed program outlining the evening’s performances.

The finale was particularly inspiring, as all students came together to perform Fame. This uplifting song symbolized optimism, encouraging students to believe in their potential and pursue their dreams.

Impact and Success

• Student Participation: 190 students, with a 90% engagement rate among participating classes.
  • Audience Impact: Over 600 attendees.
  • Duration: 2 hours of performances.
  • Inclusivity: Students of different levels and talents participated.

The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm confirmed the event’s success, reinforcing language skills, confidence, and school pride.
