NEW WORD CITY
New Word City, designed by Alexandra Bitzas, exemplifies the power of gamification by turning language learning into a journey. It transforms traditional grammar instruction into an immersive, student-driven experience, inspiring students of different ages and levels to engage with grammar creatively. Its scalability, proven engagement, and potential for digital integration set a new standard for gamified language learning. New Word City offers an incredible language quest where grammar rules and vocabulary, typically taught in isolation, are interconnected and grow. Storytelling in Kindergarten: Feel ,Taste, Smell… Are you ready to retell?
According to Charles de Lint, “there are few joys to compare with the telling of a well-told tale”. But actually, when it comes to four and five year-old children, what is better than telling a good story , is retelling it. Through this project, we feel, taste and smell retelling ideas and hands-on activities that “are based on a true story”….This story retelling project turns on all the thousand voices of our (Kindergarten) classroom.
creating memories…
Organising events either at your school or in any venue, as big or as small as they may be, is of huge importance and a “MUST DO” since we now know that what the students ‘carry ‘ with them forever is not how we form the past perfect simple or the passive voice but all those feelings they had while participating in those extra curricular activities, the anxiety before performing and the feeling of pride afterwards . So, keep it up!!

Fostering democratic dialogue within schools: The Human Library
The Human Library project at the 1st Gymnasium of Mandra, West Attica, aimed to foster social growth and resilience among students by connecting them with the local community. Implemented in an economically challenged area affected by natural disasters, the project brought together diverse individuals as Human Books. These included a hearing-impaired person, war survivors, an immigrant, and a social worker, who shared their life stories through open dialogue. The initiative promoted tolerance, empathy, and respect, helping students overcome prejudices and embrace diversity while strengthening the school’s bond with the broader community.
Caretta Caretta leaflet design. This leaflet encourages learning new vocabulary and using it in context, as well as it raises awareness about endangered species and helps students to experience knowledge through a holistic approach, having as an ultimate goal to contibute to the community.
The 4th-grade students, based on the unit from their English book “Animals—A visit to the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre,” were informed about endangered animals. As they designed a leaflet, the goal was to develop their linguistic, communicative, and social skills. Finally, the cross-curricular approach, which was reinforced through the Environmental studies, the Arts and the IT, gave students the opportunity to experience knowledge holistically , raising awareness about a social issue and taking action.

Final destination: happy people- responsible citizens.
The Bilingual Project
The Bilingual Project immerses children (aged 3-6) in English, enabling them to acquire it naturally—like bilingual speakers. Without translation, textbooks, or grammar drills, they absorb the language through play, music, storytelling, and real-life role-play. Lessons are entirely in English, and by ages 5-6, students confidently hold conversations. They are also introduced to the English alphabet, and by the junior level, they are already highly advanced speakers. Parents report children continue using English at home and with foreigners. This innovative approach proves that immersive, play-based learning creates fluency effortlessly, setting a new standard in early language education.

When the museum goes to school-, the folklore eye
“Once upon a time, the museum decides to go to school, then the class becomes a shelter and without thinking deep all the students collaborated to fullfil its fervent desire….”
The project “The folklore eye”, requires a multidisciplinary approach that combines the Art with the education, so as the students to improve their English competency.
Heirlooms of the past came into light and were put on display into the classroom intriguing students and community to be interacted in a very fruitful way. The former ones to create (projects and raise-awareness events) combining the learning of the English language and the latter to receive and examine their inner concerns, so as to be satisfied!
In conclusion, our determination is to take the initiative to raise the public awareness about the establishment of a permanent folklore collection that will be hosted in and out the borders of our country, therefore, our objectives as English teachers to be fulfiled.
