Photovoltaic projects in schools
As the owner of four foreign language schools, I have prioritized both academic excellence and sustainability. Our schools, operating since 1962, have undergone continuous modernisation, with a key initiative being the installation of photovoltaic systems. This decision has reduced energy costs, ensured financial stability, and reinforced our commitment to environmental responsibility. By integrating renewable energy into our schools, we also inspire students to adopt sustainable habits.
EFL Kritikou: Where Every Event is a Lesson, and Every Lesson an Event
At EFL Kritikou, English isn’t just taught—it‘s lived through interactive events that encourage confidence, diversity, and close community. From Halloween transformation to the Annual Certificate Ceremony, students learn English in the real context—acting, narrating, and celebrating achievement. Families become actively engaged, making learning a shared, unforgettable experience. At EFL Kritikou, students don’t just learn English—they live it, love it, and use it to communicate with the world.
Teaching emotional intelligence
In order to enhance the collaboration among our students and simultaneously the emotional intelligence of our kids in our classrooms, we decided to organize a project which would involve a fundraising in order to provide help to the organization ΛΑΜΨΗ in Thessaloniki. After notifying our community in Neo Rysio, their involvement in our cause was extremely touching. We managed to send to the children, everything they need in order to help them with their education in the English language.
KOUKKIDS: PRESCHOOL LEARNING
Our Preschool class is called KOUKKIDS , a name deriving from our Headteacher’s name KOUK-ouletsou and KIDS. The mentality and curriculum of this class refer to pupils of a young age 5 to 7 years old . The aim is to introduce the pupils to the English language and familiarise them with the first basic vocabulary , but mostly to create a motivational effect and make them love English. The pupils become fond of the various gamification methods and love coming to our lessons.
The Learner
Through an array of initiatives, we create a vibrant educational environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning. Our commitment to innovative teaching methodologies ensures that students not only acquire essential English language skills but also develop into confident, inquisitive, and capable individuals prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.

Fostering Language and Social Learning while practising Technology Skills.
Students participated in the ”Gallery of Smart Cities ” project accessing educational apps and tools within a blended learning environment.Through diverse activities and interactive educational games , they explored the concept of smart cities while developing their language and digital skills. The project fostered awareness and engagement in a motivating, creative, and collaborative setting, ultimately enhancing their learning experience and commitment to becoming informed global citizens.
Earth Week
Our annual “Earth Week” initiative fosters environmental awareness and social responsibility among the students through engaging activities at our schools. It includes a plastic cap collection campaign to support wheelchair production, creative environmental drawings , posters, a community clean-up day, and eco-friendly classroom habits. Younger students craft Earth Day acrostic poems and seed bombs to promote sustainability. Additionally, students watch educational videos on pollution and present their opinion about the problem. These initiatives enhance environmental consciousness, encourage teamwork, and promote real-world impact, instilling lifelong values of sustainability and community service in students while strengthening collaboration with the local community.
Edu-Board Games
Edu-Board Games creatively enhance learning through engaging, interactive play. A 3D version of Snakes and Ladders serves as an adaptable educational tool suitable for all ages, incorporating vocabulary reading, grammar practice, conversation, sentence formation, storytelling, and pronunciation challenges. Players progress by completing language-based tasks, making learning dynamic and enjoyable.
Dobble introduces quick-thinking exercises with vocabulary and grammar revision. Players identify matching symbols and verbalize them, with variations incorporating action verbs or creating sentences in any tense we want to revise. Both games transform traditional learning into an exciting, flexible experience, reinforcing language skills in a fun and engaging way.
Learning Beyond Borders: Emotional Literacy in the EFL class
Promoting the Emotional Intelligence of students is an invaluable tool for teachers who wish to help their students thrive. Setting aside the traditional and often one-dimensional teaching of English, targeted Emotional Literacy activities helped students to:
• become self-aware and manage their emotions
• express their feelings, showing respect and kindness
• cooperate, make responsible decisions and avoid conflicts
• set achievable goals and pursue them with a positive mindset
The children who participated in these activities were both primary and secondary school students. They enjoyed themselves and benefited in the sense that they improved their linguistic skills along with cultivating their emotionality.
"Unlocking Language Potential: A Creative Educational Journey"
Our school employs innovative teaching methods tailored to each student’s learning style (Visual, Auditory, or Kinaesthetic). We developed the L.E.W.I.S. method to teach vocabulary through interactive exercises. Grammar is taught using animated stories for fun, memorable learning. Students engage in debates, themed projects, and a global pen-pal network to enhance communication skills. Speaking practice is supported through real-life scenarios and discussions on current events to foster critical thinking. Cultural exposure is enriched through literature, theatre outings, and educational trips to the UK. We also offer personalized tutorials and custom-made board games to make learning enjoyable and effective.
English Drama Microschool Excellence
Our English Drama MicroSchools are communities that provide students with a democratic learning framework through which kids cultivate their language skills. Our unique drama based curriculum and the events our students take part in, promote critical thinking and cultivate their feelings of empathy, emotional intelligence and respect to people, animals and environment. From the implementation of key principles of Freinet Pedagogy such as school libraries, school newspaper, school community gardens, to charity events, from participations in global events such as Space Week 2024 and animal conferences to collaborations with museums, our school’s students discover the world as Global Citizens.
Enlish Drama Microschool -When Dreams Come True
Our schools premises put students at the center of the learning process. The most important thing is that every classroom is modifiable and easily adapts to a new concept or staging idea accommodating different learning styles. From flexible seating options to dyslexia friendly learning environments, from specially designed school libraries to moody lightables and bubble wall, from wheelchair accessible areas (community areas, halls, classrooms, toilets) to convertible furniture, from two theatrical stages to amphitheater stairs, from areas for pretend play to organised areas for robotics, Stem, theatre and Montessori play houses, our school offers areas that spark curiosity for learning.
The Blue Velvet Curtain Ensemble
English Drama MicroSchool curriculum is drama and storytelling based throughout all levels, from nursery classes up to C2 levels. Daily lessons have incorporated drama techniques, drama games and theater such as Image theater, Forum theater, Kamishibai theater, Role playing and the Mantle of the Expert framework. Apart from the daily lessons which go along with the textbooks, the dramatizations of the texts, the dramatization of grammar and vocabulary, there is English drama microschool drama club every Friday during which we put on a drama show based on different drama techniques artists and performers. We have also taken part in “Kouklopaizoume” contest.
Creating Unforgettable Learning Experiences
At Epikinonia, learning English extends beyond the classroom through engaging events that foster creativity, inclusion, and community spirit. Students participate in theatrical performances, hands-on workshops, and seasonal celebrations like the Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Caroling for charity, making learning both immersive and meaningful. Events such as Odd Socks Day and We’ve All Got Rights promote social awareness, while family-inclusive activities strengthen parent-student bonds. Through these experiences, students develop confidence, fluency, and a deep connection to language. Our participation in the ELT Excellence Awards reflects our commitment to redefining language education—where English is not just taught, but truly lived.
Speak up! Stop Bullying!
The School of Foreign Languages, Excellent! the past 12 years has always used Drama and Story telling as a basic tool of teaching! The students have been listening exciting stories and participating in small theatrical performances since they were pre-junior stars. So, it was time to write and perform their own story ,their own theatrical play! They inspired from a really hot issue that troubles everybody , bullying! They support acceptance, inclusivity , friendship! They encourage everybody to stop bulling every way they can! They encourage all of us to Speak up!
Using Creativity to Enhance Learning
I was taught English in the conventional way, doing homework and learning things by heart, so I became a teacher in order to inspire my students to embrace knowledge and love the English language without sticking to rules. I enjoy role play, cultural exploration and gamification as much as they do and I take pride in encouraging teamwork, communication, and social interaction skills through active learning.
Technology and digital tools also assist a personalized learning experience while developing problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and digital literacy. Thus, children learn through play and develop the skills they need to thrive. And I feel that, as Simon Biles said, “at the end of the day, if I can say I had fun, it was a good day”
Teaching English Outside the Box: The Museum Experience
Τhis project was an idea of teachers in our school who are archaeology enthusiasts!
It was divided into 3 parts:
Inside and outside the classroom, students researched, collected facts, collaborated, interacted, used scientific and real-life language, attended a museum tour by a licensed English-speaking guide and were finally inspired to share their experience through projects and oral presentations!
From beginning to end, students practised their listening, speaking, reading and writing English language skills via meaningful, carefully-planned activities. At the same time, a door of a whole new field of interests opened for them.. History, archaeology, tour guiding!

"Inspiring Young Minds: Engaging Primary Students with Museums through eTwinning"
“Inspiring Museums” is an e – Twinning project. It was implemented at 29th Primary School of Volos from November 2023 – May 2024. The students have a virtual tour of museums around the world. The purpose of this project is to teach students the importance of museums in cultures. Students create a collaborative detective story in which the characters search for stolen objects in various museums, create their own museum, their logo, the mascots, the heroes, and paint the two most valuable pieces of the museum. The innovation is the use of ICT and the use of the English language.
BUILDING MY VOCABULARY
The “Building My Vocabulary” notebook, designed and created by the English Workshop, is an effective tool for students to learn vocabulary through their categorization and contextual use. Students categorize words by part of speech and then its difficulty. The final step is using them in creative sentences. Each notebook is unique. This method enhances understanding, pattern recognition, sentence construction, and recall. Younger students engage in hands-on, color-coded activities, making learning fun and multisensory. The notebook’s structured approach fosters better retention and application of vocabulary, making it a more engaging and effective alternative to the commonly used traditional repetition options.
